the burn is amongst us!

<img src=http//burn24hour.com/images/top-bar.jpg>
this is a fun race to do as a team of 4. you cant let the racing get too much in the way of your beer drinking!
Fennell sold me out though, says he wants to be on a “real” team. WTF is a real team anyways.
i still want to do the race, semi-seriously with some dudes. preference of single speeder types. any one interested should e-mail me and it should also be known that i HATE riding at night but i will pull my weight.

getting laughed at.

Yesterday afternoon, i got out for a road ride on beautiful Oak Island. it was a point in the day where i had the opportunity so i geared up and got out. i had been riding for about 45 minutes when i crossed by where a school bus was letting out some youngern’s.
damn kids are mean. i got laughed at…
i assume it was because i was wearing my neon orange with blue tribal print Pactimo / Kane kit WHAT?! that shit looks dope with my neon orange Euskaltel-Euskadi Catlike helmet.
dumb highschoolers. if i had a team inferno kit they probobly wouldnt have laughed ’cause all the kids like urban snow camo, especially when it has an abercrombie and fitch logo on it.

Why i just dont buy the 29er thing…

… this post is more or less to make sound less like a hater. i am not going to take the easy route and dismiss 29er’s as trendy because its here to stay for sure and lets face it, i can be a trendy guy ( i love fixed gear bikes and ridgid single speed mountain bikes, tight britches and teeshirts from american apparel)

reason #1: i’m 5′5″ and although i claim 5′6″ just because you wont challenge me there is no feasable way for me to fit on one of these bikes.
maybe thats really all there is to it, but i like to be over the front.

reason #2: bottom bracket drop. i am kind of a bike geometry nerd… so some of you might know of this measurement as BB higth rather than drop. although the higth is relative to that of a 26er the drop is the important measurement being the distance between the plane of your axles and the bb spindle.
the more that distance increases the farther your feet get away from the center of the turning point as the bike leans gives you *less* traction in turns counter that by using a higher BB and you loose standover, and wind up witha bike that handles nervous.
*this is theoretical and can also be countered by the fact that a 29″ tire has more contact with the ground

reason #3: weight.
29ers are more heavy. so are their longer forks and longer rear triangles. oh and the rotational weight of the massive wheels

reason #4: rear end length.
think 1×9 is just a cool thing to do? most 29ers that are geared are 1×9 because front deraileur cages want to fight with tire knobs when typical geometry is used. otherwise they are lengthy wich means *less* traction and makes it harder to weight the rear tire on decents wich results in *less* controll

reason #5: head tube higth.
i have seen even normal sized riders put ugly inverted stems on their 29ers to get those bars lower!

reason #6: asthetics.
i know its petty, i just dont like the way they look.

i think most people who give it a try experiance a new feeling, and associate new with good… but i know several people from racers to weekend warriors who for waht ever reason got back on their 26er decided that they had been suckered into the 29 hype.
now talk amongst your selves and leave me comments telling me about how i am wrong.
