I am a single speeder? I am a single speeder! I am a single speeder.
i have been riding a ridged single speed mountain bike for more than a few years now… it is a lot of fun, and a lot of people dont get it. i realize that it isnt for every one. i realized the hard way that i will not always be able to ride hard assed style.
this past july, i was hit by a car while riding my bike to the bar. as a result of this accident i suffered a broken collar bone and some nasty war wounds. riding a ridged bike now absolutly kills my right arm and i hate it.
however in the mean time i have found a pretty nifty single speed solution that has got me grinning again in the woods.
i present to you the Kona “A” an XC single speed full suspension frame

it has a door hinge style pivot at the BB shell to keep the rear end length consistant for SS use!

it has mobile drop-outs for SS tensioning! and as you can see in the next pic, an old set of well-loved hayes mags. rebuilt with mismatched caliper halves.

i scrimped and scrounged parts from my stash at home and from the shop. i.e. an old fizik test ride seat and a 10 year old set of profile flat bars.

i rode for about an hour and a half on wednesday morning and i had no lower back or shoulder/clavicle pain.
the bike feels great and i am already to ditch the coil sprung pogo stick of a fork… my options are down to an old but still new SID that i have or re-building an older marzocchi x-fly if i can get it to hold air.

(but with on the fly adjustable seatpost!)
